Biography

From Africa Rising to Africa Resilient, he’s watched the last 15 years from the best seat at the table: a local one. Based in Nairobi with an emerging market focus, Vishal is an Investment Banker by profession with 24 years experience. An Infrastructure Specialist with experience in Public-Private Partnerships and Project Financing.
He started in Eastern Europe doing mass privatisation deals after the fall of the Soviet Union in the mid 90s. He then worked on deals in Asia and the Indian subcontinent. He also worked on transactions in Central America in Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize among others.

He moved to Africa in 2004 to take on a senior leadership role at PwC based out of Kenya serving the African region. Presently, he serves as a senior leader within General Electric Africa as Managing Director of Development & Investments. Over his career he has led deals worth $15-billion of financings worldwide and having worked on deals in over 30 countries.

Some of his signature deals are:

– A first-of-its-kind initial public offering of the Kenya Electricity Generation Company (KenGen)
– The largest (at the time) foreign direct investment in Kenya: the acquisition of Telkom Kenya by France Telecom
– A historic bi-national public-private partnership in the transport sector – the Kenya-Uganda Rail Concession

He was named to the “Top 40 Under 40” in Kenya in 2010; is a member of YPO International (Young Presidents Organisation); and is a Duke of Edinburgh Young Fellow.
