Rhod first exploded onto the comedy scene back in 2002, winning an unprecedented number of awards within his first eighteen months as a stand-up. Since his hotly anticipated debut at the Edinburgh Festival back in 2005, he has enjoyed complete sell-out hits with extra dates added every single year. Building on his reputation as a first class live act, Rhod has been a permanent fixture on the UK touring circuit every year. His most recent tour The Man With the Flaming Battenberg Tattoo was a sell out hit performing 122 shows, playing to over 175,000 people across the UK including 10,000 people over 2 nights at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.
Rhod's 2008 Royal Variety performance amassed widespread critical acclaim; Jimmy Carr praised Rhod live on GMTV for his outstanding performance, and The Stage cited him as "this year's Royal Variety discovery", predicting that the performance would "tip him into stardom¨.
Rhod is a regular on Live at the Apollo and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow. In 2010 the BBC commissioned eight episodes of Ask Rhod Gilbert after a successful pilot early in the year but unfortunately no more episodes will be recorded. Also in 2010, Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience aired on BBC One Wales and after its success, was aired nationally on BBC2. The show is now on its third series. It sees Rhod try out various jobs such as primary school teacher, hairdresser, tattoo artist and parent. He also hosts a weekly show on BBC Radio Wales.
