Jay Harman

Naturalist, Inventor, and Entrepreneur

Biography
As a naturalist, inventor, and entrepreneur, Jay Harman has taken a hands-on approach to his lifelong fascination with natural fluid systems.

With a goal of showing manufacturing industries that nature-inspired equipment is profitable for both shareholders and the environment, he has grown a series of successful biomimicry companies, including PAX Scientific and its subsidiaries. PAX designs high-efficiency fans, mixers, pumps, refrigeration, and distillation systems, all based on nature’s methods for streamlining fluid flow.

Along with his roles at PAX, Harman is an adjunct professor at Curtin University in Australia and acts as an Invention Ambassador for the AAAS and Lemelson Foundation.  He shares his adventures in the natural world and the corporate jungle in his book, The Shark’s Paintbrush, with all proceeds supporting biomimicry education.
