Biography

Hazel Sawyers is a trainer and facilitator with over 20 years’ experience of delivering training workshops and facilitating events. She delivers courses that she likes and believes can really make positive a difference to people’s lives. Courses that she has delivered over the years include:

Finance for non-finance managers
Understanding Equality and Diversity
Unconscious Bias
How to stay motivated
Mental Health Awareness
Mental Health First Aid

She teaches Mental Health awareness courses because her experience has shown her that increasing people’s knowledge and skills on how to manage mental health at work at out of the workplace really does have a positive impact on how people manage their own mental health and how they support others. Hazel’s in-depth knowledge of equality and diversity allows he to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued.

Hazel first got involved with mental health when she became an independent training consultant. Her experience of working in both HR and service delivery gave her the confidence to develop a mentoring programme so that current in-patients would get the experience of being mentored by survivors who were now living in the community. The success of this programme gave hope to patients and provided the survivors with an opportunity to contribute to the health of a patient and to ‘give something back.’

Hazel has successfully delivered courses to nurses, construction workers, paramedics, teachers, students, graduates, health and well-being practitioners, advertising agents, bankers and therapists for example.

She is excited about delivering mental health awareness courses and loves watching people grow in knowledge and confidence. The youngest person she has trained was 15 years old and the oldest person was 82.

Hazel is excited about promoting mental health awareness training and workshops to all who want to learn as the chances of any of us experiencing problems with our mental health is high (one in four at present) but there are not enough people who know how to help or support someone who is experiencing mental health issues. Yet there are some really simple things that most of us will be able to do to help and support someone to access the resources that they need to help them on the road to recovery.

Hazel trained as a Mental Health First Aider in 2008 and has recently trained as a facilitator for the Maudsley Learning at Work Programme.

Hazel lives in London with her husband and 3 children, she loves allotment gardening and alternative medicine.

Hazel has a degree in Social Anthropology, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Motivational Maps Business Practitioner.
