Gary Lineker OBE is a TV sports presenter and former England football captain.

Lineker is regarded as one of the best-known and most widely admired football players in the world. During his long and impressive 16 year career as a striker, he played for Tottenham, Everton, Leicester City, Barcelona, Nagoya Grampus Eight and England. 

Retiring from the game as a result of a foot injury, Lineker took to sports related presenting. He replaced Des Lynam as the BBC's anchorman for their flagship football television programme Match of the Day and was also a team captain on the sports game show They Think It's All Over. Many other media appearances followed. In 2013, Lineker began working for NBC Sports Network as part of their Premier League coverage. He contributes to the American version of Match of the Day.

Lineker's glittering career took him as far as Spain and Japan and he was in the England team for 9 years. He captained the England side from 1990-92 and his goal strike rate of 48 goals for his country places him second on the all-time list behind Bobby Charlton.

Lineker has received much recognition throughout his outstanding football career. He was awarded PFA Footballer of the Year in 1986. Amongst others the Football Writer's Association named him Player of the Year and he received Runner-up European Footballer of the Year. In 1990 he won the FIFA Fair Play award and his high strike rate won him the Golden Boot Award as Top Scorer in the 1986 World Cup. In 1992 he received his OBE.
