Biography

Amber Rudd is the retiring Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye.

In Government,  Rudd was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor in September 2012, and in October 2013 she became a Government Whip.

Rudd was appointed as Minister for the Department of Energy and Climate Change in July 2014 and, in May 2015 became Secretary of State for the Department. In December 2015 she led the UK team to the successful completion of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

From July 2016 to April 2018, Rudd served as Home Secretary. During 2017, she responded to the succession of terrorist attacks, calling for an international response to take radicalising material off the internet. She called for an internet response led by the major Internet Service Providers and travelled to Silicon Valley to make the case for a more responsible role by internet companies. The formation of the Global Internet Forum for Counter Terrorism in 2017 addressed this call and has successfully reduced the amount of material online and set up a scheme to ensure smaller companies are also able to remove radicalising material.

From November 2018 to September 2019, Rudd served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. She has also served as Minister for Women and Equalities.
